It\u2019s food!<\/p>\n<p>Over the next few months we\u2019ll explore some of the most significant issues that are \u201cMaking a Difference\u201d in our food supply and how we as \u201cconsumers\u201d can impact these challenges.<\/p>\n<h2>Today\u2019s topic, \u201cAnimal Welfare\u201d part #1<\/h2>\n<p>Years ago most of our ancestors had a direct connection with the food we ate. Our parents or grandparents likely came from an agrarian background or knew someone close to them that did.\u00a0 As migration to larger urban settings took place, our connection to the food we ate disappeared. When many of us were asked \u201cwhere does your dairy, poultry or pork come from?\u201d we\u2019d answer \u201cSafeway or Costco\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>But\u2026.there\u2019s a change happening. People are becoming more and more interested in where their food comes from and how these animals are treated. More and more \u201cFood\u201d companies are recognizing this ground swell of consumer concern and are becoming proactive in their response. Companies like Olymel (One of Canada\u2019s largest pork and poultry processors) has moved to entrench \u201cAnimal Welfare\u201d as a cornerstone in their approach to providing safe, sustainable, and ethical food to its customers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.olymel.ca\/en\/social-responsibility\/\">https:\/\/www.olymel.ca\/en\/social-responsibility\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a recent study conducted by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, They noted that 77% of consumers said they are concerned about the welfare of animals raised for food. We\u2019ll dig more into some of the major issues surrounding Animal Welfare in part #2 of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.acushot.ca\/vets\/food-safety-animal-welfare\/\">Making a Difference<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Animal welfare was one of the driving forces behind the development of AcuShot Inc.\u2019s innovative second generation <strong>Needle-Free<\/strong> technology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s something we all have in common: everyone in the world consumes it and without it we cannot survive.
